Volume Snapshots

This section describes how to manage volume snapshots and volume snapshot contents.

A volume snapshot defines the storage resources required to save snapshot data. After a volume snapshot is created, the system will save the snapshot data in the backend storage system, and each unit of snapshot data corresponds to a volume snapshot content on the KubeSphere platform.

Attention

If you did not specify an external persistent storage system when installing KubeSphere, KubeSphere will use the local storage system of the cluster nodes as the persistent storage system. Typically, the local storage system of cluster nodes does not support volume snapshot functionality.

Before creating a volume snapshot, you need to install a storage plugin for clusters to ensure that the backend storage system supports volume snapshot functionality, and create a Volume Snapshot Class.
